JOSÉ MANUEL CASTRO CARVALHO ARAÚJO
Graduated in Architecture by the architecture schools of Oporto and Lisbon, he started to work as an architect and designer at CECA (Carvalho Araújo Research Center), in 1986, and then as founder at Atelier Carvalho Araújo, in 1996.
Currently he also takes the position of consultant and creative director in diferents companies. He is frequently invited to participate in exhibitions, conferences and congresses, receiving several national and international awards both in the area of Architecture and Product Design.
Mr. Aires e Sousa completed his secondary school studies in 1987. Two years later, he began working in companies within the furniture and interior design sector. Self-taught in design, he joined MOVECHO in 2009 and is currently a resident designer for the company, having signed various products for the brand.
In 1984, Mr. Ferreira enrolled for an architecture degree in Escola Superior Artística do Porto. At the same time, he developed works in the equipment design area. In 1992, along with Architect Fernando Seara, he founded Zute Arquitectos Lda, which provided architecture projects and equipment design. This partnership ended in 1997. Having completed his architecture degree in 1998, he worked as a freelancer. Continuing his previous activities, individually or within a partnership, between 1999 and 2006 he also taught equipment design at A.R.C.A.-E.T.A.C, in Coimbra.
ALZIRA PEIXOTO + CARLOS MENDONÇA
With degrees in Industrial Design, Alzira Peixoto and Carlos Mendonça have been developing their activity as designers and consultants within various areas of design since 1995. They have participated as guests in various lectures, seminars, workshops and committees in various countries. They are repeatedly pointed out by the media for their work, which has been published in magazines, books and catalogues throughout the years. As a team, they created SimpleFormsDesign, a company that is positively associated to the use of new materials, that they transform into lifestyle objects with a very personal and innovative language, and which has already won them recognition through awards, such as Red Dot (2008), DesignPreis-Nominee (2008), IF Award Design 2015, Good Design of Chicago (2015), Design Preis-Nominee (2015), as well as by being selected by BID 2016 for international exhibition in Madrid.
In 1968, Miguel Arruda completed a Degree in Sculpture at Escola Superior de Belas Artes. In 1989, he finished an Architecture Degree at the Faculty of Architecture of Universidade Técnica de Lisboa. Mr. Arruda was a university professor at Faculdade de Belas Artes de Lisboa, where he taught until he took over the management of the institution, between 2004 and 2008.
He developed works in Sculpture, Design and Architecture, which were published and shown in Portugal and abroad. He also received various national and international awards and nominations, among which we highlight, in 2015, the Good Design and, in 2016, the Red Dot Design Award and the A’Design Award attributed to the SPHERICAL chair. In architecture, in 2010, he was nominated for the Mies Van Der Rohe award and, more recently, the Vila Franca de Xira Library conquered the 2016 Iconic Awards.
