Design Miguel Arruda
A work by the Portuguese architect Miguel Arruda, the Spherical was designed to inhabit a sculpture. Its timelessness dates back to 1968, when Miguel Arruda created a small piece of art that was replicated on a large scale in 2010, at the CCB in Lisbon – the Habitable Sculpture.
The Spherical results from the anthropomorphic matrix in module (1968) that is at the origin of the Habitable Sculpture (2010) and comprises an association of shapes around the cube, the cylinder, the cone and the sphere. It is from the latter that a formal explicitness takes place, in this case, subordinated to the function of “sitting” contemplated in the Spherical. In functional terms, its spherical form enables easy handling and adapting it to a variety of spaces and environments.
